Dirty Blood was born from NaNoWriMo (http://nanowrimo.org/) which is a non-profit organization that hosts a challenge each November for writers to complete an entire book in 30 days. Whew. Yeah, it’s as hard as it sounds. And this was a few years back so I was still new to writing and had no real idea what I wanted the book to be. I knew I wanted to write werewolves but with a new spin so I chose a Hunter as a Main Character to change things up. From there, my characters pretty much took over. It was so fun watching that story and world come to life and my characters become real — not just to me but to my readers too. Since then, I’ve stuck mostly to YA because it’s the genre that provides the most emotional arc for a person, I think. We go through so much from ages 16-25 and well, I love angst. If anyone asks what I write about, I usually tell them “the angst.” Because sometimes, the turmoil of anticipation of a kiss is even better than the actual kiss.
